RBA Winter Newsletter 2021

The dark nights are setting in earlier now and there is a definite chill in the air most days, so let’s hope that there is not too much severe weather on the horizon for these winter months ahead.

It is good to know that there is some warming good news to share from some of our members:

In the rather late “Summer Show at the RA” is Jill Leman and [can you see the resemblance?] her brother, prizewinner David Winthrop


Cheryl Culver has one of her works on the cover of a book written by a psychotherapist which is described as:
“Opens up a neglected landscape for recognition and discussion”
The illustration seems to be a perfect fit!

Cheryl also has work in the Geedon Gallery 20th Anniversary Exhibition Part II and in the RBA exhibition ‘In Harmony’ at the M1 Gallery.

News from some of our RBA RISING STARS …

But first … my apologies to Tedi Lena for mis-spelling his name in the last newsletter, however I have an opportunity to record it correctly now because …
Tedi Lena was shortlisted for the Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the year 2021 competition which was broadcast on the 13th October. His celebrity sitter loved Tedi’s work and bought it after the show!

‘Displacement – A Street in Rome’ by Tara Versey

Thomas Merrett was a finalist in the National Sculpture Prize and his work will be displayed for one year at the Broomhill Estate in Devon. He is creating a series of works called ‘Listener’ and one of these will be a large over life size sculpture for the outdoor group exhibition in the summer:

Ben Duax shared an exhibition of new work with 2 others in Gallery 1855 at the Davis Cemetery District & Arboretum in California. He exhibited prints with individual soundtracks.

Ruth Murray, Jackson’s painting prize 2020 winner, had a solo exhibition in October at the Bankley Gallery in Manchester.  It was called ‘The Green Ray’ and brought together a series of paintings she had been working on for the past 3 years.

Call for Entries for the 2022 RBA Annual Exhibition

As well as skill and draughtsmanship, they will be looking for originality and creativity.
