Opportunities & Projects

The encouragement of artists, regardless of their age, is one of the primary aims of the RBA.  To this end, the Society members offer workshops, talks and demonstrations to the public during the course of the Annual RBA Exhibition.

These cover different aspects of artistic endeavor including sketchbooks, plein air painting, use of graphite, watercolour, etc. Applications from non-members to show in the Annual exhibition are also very welcome and many of their works are showcased alongside the works of the RBA members.

Some of the members are called upon by outside groups or colleges to offer talks and advice to their students. The Council also makes an effort to visit Degree shows across the country in order to talk with students and encourage the development of their skills.

Specifically for younger artists, the RBA are able to offer:

The Marianne Von Werther Memorial Award
(RBA Rome Scholarship)

The Marianne Von Werther Memorial Award – This is a Scholarship for the month of September, staying at ‘Sala Uno’ a prestigious gallery in the centre of Rome.

Links with Other Societies

We have made links with Hereford College of Arts, particularly with the BA Artist Blacksmithing course and we hope to offer more involvement with that college in the future

Additional Awards and Prizes

The three finalists for the Rome Scholarship will receive financial awards and have their work shown alongside the members’ work at the RBA Annual Exhibition 2022

We have received funding for this project from Turing UK [British Council] and shall be giving students mainly from ‘disadvantaged’ backgrounds, the opportunity to receive work experience in France, Italy, Malta and Spain.
